Expertise & Innovation

Water

Our water application specialists provide extensive onsite technical support to drinking water and waste water customers to assist in achieving production and quality goals while optimizing costs.  Our water application specialists average over 20 years of water treatment experience, including previous roles in plant operations, analytical chemistry, and R&D.

On-site technical support includes:
• Jar testing in support of product evaluations and recommendations
• Troubleshooting of treatment processes
• Planning and supervising pilot and plant trials.

Additional responsibilities include:
• Attending national and local industry conferences to maintain an understanding of EPA regulations, industry trends, and new technologies.
• Communicating to customers operating tips and “best practices” learned from other customers.

Field efforts are supported by our developmental laboratories having the following analytical capabilities:
• ICP-MS
• AA
• Zeta meter
• TOC

In addition, our product development group is staff with post-graduate chemists focused on developing new technologies and improving the cost-effectiveness of our existing manufacturing processes.

Pharmaceutical

In addition to decades of manufacturing experience, our research and development chemists have developed methodology to customize a variety of aluminum hydroxide and aluminum phosphate adjuvant properties for more specialized customer needs.   Our ability to attenuate properties provides our customers options for meeting their specific requirements.  Properties that can be customized include:

• Isoelectric Point
• Protein Binding Capacity
• Particle Size
• Viscosity

Further, our experts offer collaborative work in troubleshooting different analytical and formulation needs.

Pulp and Paper

Our paper application specialists provide extensive onsite technical support to paper mill customers to assist in achieving production and quality goals while optimizing costs.  Our paper application specialists average over 20 years of paper industry experience; including previous roles in mill process engineering , production engineering, stock prep and paper machine management.

On-site technical support includes extensive wet end testing to:
• Optimize alum usage
• Maximize internal sizing results by assisting mill personnel with addition point strategies.
• Improve retention, drainage, and formation.
• Minimize chemical related deposition on the machine

General Chemical’s wet end survey includes:
• Alum Op® Survey – onsite measurement of total and soluble alum concentrations and pH throughout the papermaking process from stock prep to the reel. This is very effective in determining optimal alum addition points to maximize sizing and minimize deposition.
• SCD titration and zeta potential charge measurement techniques to optimize addition points of alum as well as other wet end functional chemicals.
• DDJ – retention and fines measurement to further assist in managing wet end chemical dosage strategies.
