Lake treatment and restoration
|
When lakes, reservoirs, or lagoons have excess nutrients, algae and weeds proliferate. As these plants respire, die, and decompose, oxygen in the water is depleted, suffocating fish and other animals. Metal salts inactivate phosphorus by precipitating it as a metal phosphate. The reactions occur at the pH values normally found in surface waters and are dependent on water temperature and alkalinity as well as metal salt concentration. |
