For use as an agricultural fertilizer, Al+Clear® treated poultry litter is a more valuable litter than untreated litter due to the relatively high total nitrogen content. The average Al+Clear® treated litter will retain five pounds more nitrogen than untreated litter. This is caused by acidic conditions which result from the Al+Clear® application. In these acidic conditions ammonia (volatile) is converted into an ammonium salt, which is non-volatile form of nitrogen. Therefore, the nitrogen is retained in the litter and results in a higher fertilizer value. Also, since Al+Clear® readily binds soluble phosphorus, Al+Clear® treated litter allows more flexibility in the application of litter onto pastures by, reducing runoff of soluble phosphorus and heavy metals as compared to untreated litter.
