General Chemical is an active supplier of products and services into the agriculture industry. Our primary role in this industry, is to work with live production management and contract growers through a network of animal health distributors, cooperatives, farm stores, and custom applicators, to make available Al⁺Clear^® Poultry Grade Alum, Al⁺Clear^® Liquid A7 and Al⁺Clear^® Liquid Alum products.  Al⁺Clear^® brand products provide valuable benefits throughout the entire litter management cycle, from the poultry house to its effects on being land applied as fertilizer. During the growout, it improves bird health by reducing ammonia levels, litter pH, and by reducing litter moisture.  Al⁺Clear^® brand products uniquely retain more nitrogen in the litter than untreated litter, making spent litter a more valuable agricultural resource.

General Chemical's products also are the most effective way to bind soluble phosphorus and heavy metals [Hg, Pb, As] in litter, reducing their environmental impact from runoff, into streams, ponds, lakes and waterways. Runoff of soluble phosphorus from spent litter used as fertilizer is of concern in all poultry-growing areas. When excessive phosphorus enters lakes, reservoirs and other waterways, it promotes the growth of algae, unwanted aquatic plants and microorganisms.

Along with concerns for improved water quality of natural and manmade water resources and receiving runoff waters, General Chemical has considerable experience in the area of lake treatment and restoration, and municipal water, and lagoon treatment.  The main focus in water treatment programs is on algae control, which is accomplished by the addition of alum. Alum binds soluble phosphorus making it unavailable for algae; thereby, preventing proliferation and eutrophication [overgrowth].
